CUSTOMER REVIEWS on Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown

evenflo convertible car seat Not all babies built for Britax, December 1, 2009
By      A. Moore (Knoxville, TN)

I was very torn in choosing a toddler carseat for my son to graduate into. I used Consumer Reports to narrow my search, and this carseat won best buy as well as highest safety ratings for 2007. I read tons and tons of reviews on both this model, other Evenflo models, and all the Britax models. I had actually decided on the Britax Marathon, but I took my son to the store to “try them on.” I’d read some reviews from unhappy parents about the Britax being a tight fit. I am so glad I took him with me! I changed my mind immediately!

First, there didn’t appear to be an inch of growing room in the Britax. My son is 90th percentile in length and weight, and has been since 9 months. He was crammed in there with no wiggle room. He fits nicely in the Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown, and I feel he is safe when the straps are tightened. Second, the Britax crotch strap is NOT adjustable, and the Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown’s is, allowing for even more growing room.

I’d read that the Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown is bulky and hard to move from car to car. This is somewhat true. However, I have done it, and it isn’t too painful. The Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown seat isn’t heavy, but it is bulky. I have found the easiest thing is to take the cover off if using the seatbelt. If using the latch system, it’s just a couple of clicks. I’d also read that the seat is too large to fit comfortably in some cars. I have a Honda Accord 2003, and my husband has a 2000 model. The Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown fits pretty easily in both cars.

I’ve used this Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown both rear-facing and forward facing. Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown is easy to install rear-facing, easy to level. Supposedly, convertible carseats are often tricky to use rear-facing. The belt release is a bit more difficult in the rear-facing position. I found you have to keep your hand completely OFF the tightening knob to get it to loosen easily. But in forward facing, I don’t seem to get in my own way as much.

I LOVE the no-thread system in the Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown; it is my favorite feature. It is very easy to loosen the straps all the way so that he can be fastened in properly, even if wearing bulky clothing. Tightening is easy, just turn the knob. The Britax carseats have velcro on the straps so that you can easily keep them out of the way when trying to load the toddler. I think that’s a pretty nice feature, but my son loves this Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown.

The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because it is bulky and thus a little more cumbersome to transfer between vehicles. And also, because of the rear-facing inconvenience of having the belt adjustment system a little out of reach.

I have been using this Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown now for about 3 months and am very satisfied. I have no regrets about not buying Britax. I feel my son is well protected, is comfortable and snug, and is easily transfered in and out. I strongly recommend it if your child is in the upper ranges for length and/or weight.

We bought this Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown for our 2nd car. The Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown is very roomy. Side impact protection, EPS foam and good ratings by a car seat technician on the [...] message board convinced us to buy the Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown. Installing rear-facing was not too bad, though the knob to adjust the harness ends up smashed into the seat so it can be hard to turn. Our baby is on the big side (90th percentile for weight and 75th for height). We ended up transferring him from an infant carrier at 6 months. This Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown is very roomy and comfortable for him.

We just bought this Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown for our 2nd daughter. I thought it was essentially an upgraded version of the same seat as the one we bought for our first daughter in 2007. Now that we have it, I am surprised to see how much larger it is than the older one. The top of the back is almost 6 inches taller, the sides are wider, and the seat sits higher which means the baby can more easily look out the window. The size difference is not a complaint; just an observation.

The main new (improved) feature this Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown has that our older model didn’t have is that the top of the shoulder straps are not locked into one slot or another; they actually slide up and down and so they fit at exactly the correct position over the child’s shoulders. Adjusting the height of the straps on our older seat is a bit of a pain so this is something we never have to worry about now.

However the one negative new feature is that the lap buckles which click into the center connector are “free sliding” and so they always slide down under the sides of the baby’s butt. So every time you put the baby in the seat, you have to reach down under the baby to find these buckles. The older version of the seat had these buckles fixed at the right place along the strap so they don’t slide down like that. (This is hard to explain and maybe doesn’t make any sense.)

Overall, this Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown is a great seat. the larger size means my kid will be able to use it until she is quite large and thus delay our need to get anything new (like a booster seat) for white some time.

evenflo convertible car seatBetter than the competition just because of the ease of adjusting, October 30, 2009

I’ve used a handful of different convertible car seats by now, between borrowed seats from friends and the dubious seats proffered by rental car agencies, and they’re all nearly impossible to adjust in the rear-facing position. Now that the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests keeping children rear-facing for at least the first two years, a seat that doesn’t adjust well rear-facing is even more annoying.

Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown is the first one i’ve seen that has the strap adjustment on the side, so it’s just as easy to use rear-facing as front-facing. To loosen the straps, you push the lever. To tighten them, you turn the knob. It’s so easy to do without even looking.

It’s no harder to install than other seats i’ve used, no harder to clean, no harder to get my son into or out of. Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown.

And because Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown is mentioned in several of the low-star reviews: yes, if your child falls asleep, they may end up with their head tipped forward in that slightly disturbing fashion endemic to the car seat ridership. As awkward as the Evenflo Convertible Seat Triumph Advance Harbortown looks to us, the kids never seem to mind, so i’m not sure what the point is in getting worked up about it.
